§ 30-12. Removal of yard trimmings, appliances; fees.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Normal seasonal yard trimmings and prunings in reasonable quantities will be removed by the town. Any limbs or trimmings removed by the town must be separated from other trash, cut in lengths no longer than four feet, not exceeding 50 pounds and no bigger than six inches in diameter. They also must be placed with the butts of all limbs in one direction. Abnormal quantities of trimmings or any lot clearings, tree removals or stumps shall be transported to the county landfill by the owner or contractor. In doubtful cases, prior agreement should be made with the town clerk-treasurer's office. Contractors, hired labor or anyone other than the property owner or tenant shall be responsible for their own removal of limbs, brush, yard trimmings or appliances.

    (b)

There will be a charge for limbs/brush pickup of $25.00 per load when a tractor/backhoe and dump truck are needed to pick up these items. These fees will be paid prior to pickup.

    (c)

A charge will be made for hauling of stoves, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, sofas, dining tables, and all other pieces of furniture and appliances, with the exception of televisions and other computer hardware that cannot be removed by the Town. The charge for removal will be as follows:

One item for removal ..... No charge

One-half truck load or five cubic yards ..... $35.00

One full truck load or ten cubic yards ..... $60.00

Fees will need to be paid in advance for items to be removed. If the property is a rental property and the tenant places item(s) out to be picked up and the tenant does not pay the fees, then it will be the property owner's responsibility to pay such fees to have the nuisance abated. Upon the failure of any property owner to pay the stated fees, the amount unpaid shall constitute a lien upon the real estate, and shall be collectible in the same manner as municipal taxes. The town shall henceforth be entitled to collect the fees in any reasonable manner, including, but not limited to, garnishing federal and/or or state tax refund of the owner of the property. Any items that are blocking sidewalks or road rights-of-way will result in the issuance of a ticket for littering with additional fines/fees.
